Story behind the name

Arnaldus de Villa Nova lived between 1240-1311. In addition to being a physician, he was a religious reformer, astrologer and was recognized by contemporaries as an adept in alchemy. He was probably born in the kingdom of Aragon where he studied medicine and theology. He taught for years at the "Montpellier school of medicine" and then made a name for himself in Paris. He died in 1311 on the way to Pope Clement V who had summoned him to Avignon.
